Shaving genitals

Ok I started shaving my genital region a couple times now but get such bad razor burn and it drives me nuts. I take a hot shower and allow the pores to open up and then use shaving cream and a fresh razor shaven and then cleaned with a soap and cleaned off the left over shaving cream. Does anyone have a cream or something else they do or use? Would love any ideas and help. Love the feel of it shaven and so does my wife. Thanks for all your help.
